Learn how flexible storage bins with rigid covers can tame your Model Y trunk recesses. This guide explains the key decision rules and compatibility limits.
Quick answer
For most Model Y owners, a set of flexible storage bins with rigid covers is the most effective way to organize the trunk recesses, provided your vehicle is compatible.
Compatibility is the first filter
Not all Model Ys can use these bins. The set is designed for pre-August 2022 models (roughly VIN under 540900) and is not compatible with Austin-built units. Check your VIN and delivery date before ordering.
Why rigid covers matter
The covers are matched to the trunk carpet, creating a flush surface that conceals the bins. This keeps the trunk looking clean while preventing items from shifting during driving.
Decision rules for choosing trunk storage bins
- Check VIN and build date: Verify your Model Y was built before August 2022 and VIN is under 540900. Austin-built units are excluded.
- Assess your storage needs: If you regularly carry small items that tend to roll around, the recessed bins with covers keep everything tidy and out of sight.
- Consider the cover material: The rigid covers are carpet-matched, which helps the trunk look factory-finished. If you prefer a soft lid, look elsewhere.
